Tips for staying active as schedules get packed

1. Steps and stories challenge
Encourage patrons to listen to audiobooks or podcasts while walking around their neighborhood/local park, or even while doing chores around the home if safety is a concern. Organize a challenge where participants track daily steps and pair it with reading goals. Use Hiveclass warmups to get properly warmed up before. Not a client yet – contact discover@hiveclass.co.
2. Active storytime or movement-based storytelling
For kids, offer storytimes that include movement breaks like jumping when they hear certain words, acting out parts of the story or dancing. Suggest parents do “story yoga” or “movement breaks” with their children at home between reading chapters. Refer to Hiveclass yoga to learn yoga moves.
3. Library walking routes
If accessible, map out walking or biking routes nearby for learners to explore safely. Encourage families to take “book walks” where they walk to the library to pick up books or attend programs.
4. Fitness and movement classes
Host virtual or in-person classes like chair yoga for seniors or beginner fitness for teens using Hiveclass video lessons.
5. Active homework break ideas
Suggest quick, easy physical activities for students to do between homework sessions like five-minute stretches jumping jacks or dancing to a favorite song. Create a printable or digital “brain break activity” sheet patrons can take home. We have some brain-break activities. Log in if your library is already a client! If not, contact the team today!
